Live with Ansley. Ep. 1 Elementary Commentary and the Importance of Clothes

A replay of a recent recording with bonus content!

This was my first live and a lot of fun! We talked about Elementary, a recent re-watch of mine. I also have a companion post in drafts featuring Morland Homes, so you will see more Elementary content. I don’t have a schedule yet. Maybe I’ll make that the post for next week. Speaking of which, there will be changes coming soon. I’ll release another post on that shortly.

But back to the video!

Clarifications on the Femme Fatale and Letting Characters Drive Stories

Some clarifications for the video since it got a little crazy there at the end with the unstable internet connection:

Playing with the Definition of Beauty

I mentioned She’s Out My League. Ansely mentioned Legally Blonde and Clueless. I also think Mean Girls among many other movies show the archetype of the beautiful blonde woman being the most beautiful in the crowd. All those women are beautiful, but I want to expand the definition of beauty with my work to include other defaults.

Which brings me to dressing up Chloe. I wanted to make her sexy, but not Jessica Rabbit sexy (loved Jessica growing up), but I wanted a realistic vixen. Someone I could meet one day, not an archetype that could only exist in a book or movie.

Character-driven Stories

I love character-driven storytelling. I want to explore the innermost parts of their worlds and have them represented in the plot. Yes, Chloe can come off as crazy, especially since she causes accidents, but I also want to explore why she acts that way, and why people respond to her the way they do while telling an entertaining tale. Something that is easier to do in women’s fiction and literary fiction. However, I believe Ansley focuses on the plot first. I’ll put this on our list of things to talk about during one of our future lives.

Is anyone you know interested in pop culture and fiction? This post is free so you can share it!

Elementary Songs

I could not list the songs off the top of my head, but I went back and looked.

As I said I like The Long Haul by No. I also love All We Do by Oh Wonder and Me and the Devil by Gil Scott-Heron. There are so many more amazing songs that are part of that show. I did find this playlist:
