This space will be undergoing some changes. I mentioned it in the live and will make an official post in a couple of weeks. I will add behind-the-scenes posts about my fictional writing, sample chapters, more author interviews, short stories, my progress towards pursuing the Pulitzer, and craft advice. No worries, all the character, TV, and movie deep dives are still going to be here.
Basically, I’m combining Everything Fiction with Pop Culture Playground. So you’ll be getting a lot more content for free! So Wins of the Week 1 is on my Patreon. But, going forward, you’ll see the whole series here.
What is Wins of the Week?
Wins of the Week is a simple series that celebrates accomplishing the small things. We all get caught up in the big wins: finishing a novel, a work promotion, earning a degree, but forget all about the little steps that get us there. I also like to include tidbits of advice when I can, so you can achieve your wins for your week too.
On to Wins of the Week 2.
Win 1
I have completed a significant amount of work on my short story class: Everything You Need to Know About Short Stories. The course curriculum is done. All that is left is setting up the sales pages and other administration duties.
It feels good because I created a majority of the class last year, but burnt out before I could finish it. It took a lot of uploading, downloading, and tiny fixes. My frustration level from dealing with a new platform and a new app was high. But I took the space I needed. Now, I’m excited to get back to it. I even have more ideas for classes that will help my students.
Remember, new things can be challenging, but taking a break can give you a whole new perspective.
Win 2
I touched on this earlier. Instead of feeling overwhelmed trying to run 4 newsletters, I have consolidated 3 newsletters into one giant newsletter with a smaller, super-fan newsletter that will be launched at a later date. Melding everything will take time, but I’m excited to have everything in one place.
This gives me the free time I need to accomplish my goals.
Sometimes, it’s not about taking things off of your plate so much as making what is on your plate more manageable.
Win 3
I sent out another pitch. If you don’t know, a pitch is something you send to a magazine or newspaper about an article that you’d like to write for them. It’s competitive and can be time-consuming, but it feels good to create something outside of my usual content from time to time.
Mixing up tasks can feel renewing.
Win 4
I came up with two new social media posts. I haven’t posted them, but it’s nice to know they are there when I’m ready. Especially since I struggle to create social media content in an efficient manner. I still can’t, but I’m doing my best and that feels good.
We can all remind ourselves, it’s not about doing something perfectly. Getting it done is what matters.
What were your Wins of the Week?
